Tammy Vella: Collaborating to Drive Progress

At ComfortDelGro Australia, Tammy Vella often goes beyond her role as a National Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Manager. At ComfortDelGro Australia, Tammy Vella often goes beyond her role as a National Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Manager. Across states, departments, and business units, Tammy is known for her ability to bring different teams of people together to solve complex problems and improve the way the company operates. For her, collaboration isn’t just an afterthought of the job — it’s how the job gets done in the first place.

When you take time to understand where others are coming from, you build real trust. That’s what makes collaboration stick – and that’s when you start seeing real progress.

Building a culture of shared success

Tammy joined ComfortDelGro Australia’s National Safety Team in 2020. From the onset, their goal was ambitious – to align safety practices across an extremely broad and diverse business.

We started monthly meetings with the HSEQ teams from every business unit. Everyone had different challenges, but by sharing ideas, asking questions and tweaking things along the way, we collaborated to build something stronger together.

That collaborative foundation has been key to projects like the rollout of pre-sign on breath testing, a complex initiative involving multiple internal teams and an external vendor. Tammy ensured that everyone knew their role, understood the broader objective, and had a say in shaping the solution.

Clear communication and collective problem-solving reduce confusion and help things run smoothly. You need everyone on board, from start to finish.

Tammy’s focus on practical, people-first teamwork echoes one of the company’s core values: collaboration, with the aim of living our purpose: Mobility for a Better Future. To Tammy, working together also requires shared ownership and long-term growth over projects.

She actively contributes to subject matter expert groups and forums where colleagues across Australia come together to solve problems and share what works. “It’s where great ideas come from,” Tammy says. “When you bring the right people into the room and give them space to speak, you create solutions that actually stick.”

Collaborating to build trust

Whether she’s working with Operations, IT, or Asset Management, Tammy brings the same mindset: empathy, structure, and a clear sense of shared purpose. It’s helped her become a trusted voice — someone colleagues turn to for both advice and action.

Her proudest moment? Being part of the National ISO Certification Project — a major undertaking that brought teams together from across the country to standardise processes and raise the bar nationally.
It showed what’s possible when we collaborate with intent, and it’s setting us up to grow stronger together.
Tammy is proof that human connection — built through open dialogue and mutual respect — is the key to meaningful progress in the workplace.
