Colin Majid: Growing the Future in Darwin
As a Community Engagement Manager with ComfortDelGro’s Australian subsidiary, ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC), Colin Majid’s connects people to purpose for CDC Northern Territory. Grounded in his indigenous heritage and deep ties to the community, Colin’s work is a powerful example of how Growth – one of ComfortDelGro’s core values – creates ripples far beyond the workplace.
His journey reflects not only personal development, but also how meaningful community engagement enhances people’s lives as well as the company’s reputation within the community.
I grew up here in Darwin, where everyone knows everyone. It’s a multi-cultural place, and I learn a lot just by being part of it.
Colin’s upbringing gave him the foundation to give back to his community – especially to the younger generation who, as he puts it, may be “lost in many ways”.
Rooted in Community, Driven by Purpose
In his role, Colin visits schools, runs youth talks, and welcomes indigenous groups to tour ComfortDelGro’s depots. He mentors new drivers on what it means to be ‘school-bus ready’ – that it’s not just about driving, but also about building trust and relationships with the students they serve.
It’s not just about picking up kids and dropping them off. You’ve got to connect with them and show them respect. That’s how you earn theirs.
To Colin, growth is guiding the next generation by helping young people realise they have a future to work towards, even when their current circumstances may be tough. He believes that ‘doing good brings good’.
I always tell them – find a job you love, learn from others, and pass that knowledge on.
Growing ideas into action
Colin himself walks the talk — his hands-on work has produced practical, lasting change. From cultural awareness sessions to safety videos that address issues like rock-throwing at buses, his initiatives blend real-world relevance with community care.
He was a key driver behind CDC’s partnerships with indigenous groups and different events such as Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, and Road Safety Week. For him, these aren’t one-off events – they’re stepping stones in a journey to uplift everyone.
We now use these videos in school talks to show students how distractions or bad behaviour on buses can put everyone at risk. We want them to understand that our main goal is to get them home in the same condition they came to school in.
A passion for making a difference
Colin’s role in the company has also been a journey of personal growth. Initially, he began with ComfortDelGro as a local bus driver. What began as a job in transport evolved into a platform for impact – blending his cultural identity, his passion for youth outreach, and his belief in doing good, culminating in his current role as a Community Engagement Manager.
Since joining ComfortDelGro, Colin has become a bridge between ComfortDelGro and the community – he has grown into a respected community leader and trusted voice within the company. His story shows how personal and professional growth can go together, and how one person’s commitment can inspire many.
His message to those who want to make a difference: “Don’t be in a hurry to change the world. Good things take time. Just be consistent and talk to the people who’ve been there.”
When asked what “making a difference” looks like to him, Colin doesn’t hesitate: “Take a crack at it. Doing something is better than doing nothing.”
Growing our presence in Australia
Colin’s deep involvement in the community extends beyond doing the right thing – it lays a vital foundation for ComfortDelGro to grow with the communities it serves.
It’s not about ticking boxes and saying, “Yes, we have done that.” More time needs to be spent by both businesses and communities to understand each other and focus on real, meaningful results. It’s a two-way street.
